I've recently become somewhat addicted to brain games. I've always liked puzzles, but when I started finding games on the App Store that promised to make me smarter I went a little nuts. I downloaded every game I could find and started playing. A few weeks later, expecting to be a genius, I just felt like I wasted a lot of time. Did I become smarter? Maybe, but not noticeably. This made me wonder whether these so called brain improvement puzzle games actually improved your brain.
I did some research and came across this video, which explains it perfectly. Basically, yes you do get better at the games, but not because you're getting smarter. Instead you improve because you learn new ways to play the game and improve your strategy to complete the games.
It's a disappointing conclusion, but it doesn't take away the fact that some of those brain games are actually incredibly good fun, and a great time waster if you have a few minutes to waste.

Let me know by leaving a comment what your thoughts are. Do you play puzzle games? Do you think they have made you a lot smarter? I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you, as I know this is very controversial to a few people out there.
